What is Second Life?

KSU SL store Second Life is a 3D world launched in 2003 by Linden Lab. It is similar to online games (multi-player, immersive, 3D), however there are differences (no clear objective, no points).

Second Life is one of several virtual worlds inspired by the cyberpunk literary movement, particularly by Neal Stephenson's novel Snow Crash.

Not sure what to do in SecondLife? The best suggestion is to create an avatar and explore! Visit several islands and talk to other educators. Check out the 'get started' page for more information.

Why Second Life?

Virtual words provide unique opportunities for student engagement, learning via simulation, role playing, distance learning, co-creation and more. Visit these links for more information on the educational uses of Second Life.
